The Quest Manifesto!

About Linktober Quest...

Linktober Quest is a drawing challenge that focuses on visual development in a linear journey or event that you create. The Linktober Quest concept is from the mind of D.B. Root and then collaborated on with Joel to put together the QUEST CALENDAR. Click any of the topics below to jump to that section or scroll and read all.

Why do Linktober Quest vs. the Original Linktober?
Linktober Quest was designed as an interactive journey through your own world and as a chance to practice visual development. This focuses on storytelling, design, and continuity within a structured format. This, also gives an opportunity to enrich the Legend of Zelda world with characters and places that may not be canon to the series. By the end of the game you'll have a body of visual development material that could be polished up for things like portfolio entries, inspiration for other characters/stories, or a window into a world you built.

How Does it Work?
Like many art challenges there are 31 prompts that give a topic (prompt) for what to draw each day in that month. The difference is that in Linktober Quest, the challenges are like a new page in your own adventure...

Within the first few days you create new characters in the style of Legend of Zelda as if you are designing a new game. After designing/choosing your character each new daily prompt will be another part of the world you'll uncover, ranging from characters, to props, and environments.
At the end you'll have built a small view into a larger world you've crafted.

New Game
Imagine that you are the Art Director for a new Legend of Zelda Game.

Your original character sets out on a journey across Hyrule. Each day is something new and is meant to help put your character on the right path. All prompts are a specific type like: Character, Prop, or Location. It's up to you how you interpret the concept, but it should have something to do with the setup in the below introduction.

This is your story told through the pictures you draw.

Festival of Zelda

After years of conflict the kingdom of Hyrule is at peace. In the years following the recovery the different peoples of the land isolated themselves from one another.

In an effort to bring the people together Zelda came up with an idea; a festival celebrating all of the peoples of the kingdom. Messengers were sent to find cultural masters, artists, and engineers from each domain.

For those who answered the call, they must now work together to bring forth a grand festival to unite the kingdom! The committee decided to divide the festival into four parts: culture, science, food, and competition. Each category will be hosted by a different race to show off the best of what they have to offer except competition where all are welcome to compete.

Let the Festival of Hyrule begin!
