The Quest Manifesto!

About Linktober Quest...

Linktober Quest is an art event that focuses on visual development in a linear journey or event that you create. The Linktober Quest concept is from the mind of D.B. Root and then collaborated on with Joel to put together the QUEST CALENDAR. Click any of the topics below to jump to that section or scroll and read all.

Why do Linktober Quest vs. the Original Linktober?
Linktober Quest was designed as an interactive journey through your own world and as a chance to practice visual development. This focuses on storytelling, design, and continuity within a structured format. This, also gives an opportunity to enrich the Legend of Zelda world with characters and places that may not be canon to the series. By the end of the game you'll have a body of visual development material that could be polished up for things like portfolio entries, inspiration for other characters/stories, or a window into a world you built.

How Does it Work?
Like many art challenges there are 31 prompts that give a topic (prompt) for what to draw each day in that month. The difference is that in Linktober Quest, the challenges are like a new page in your own adventure...

Within the first few days you create new characters in the style of Legend of Zelda as if you are designing a new game. After designing/choosing your character each new daily prompt will be another part of the world you'll uncover, ranging from characters, to props, and environments.
At the end you'll have built a small view into a larger world you've crafted.

New Game
Imagine that you are the Art Director for a new Legend of Zelda Game.

Your original character sets out on a journey across Hyrule. Each day is something new and is meant to help put your character on the right path. All prompts are a specific type like: Character, Prop, or Location. It's up to you how you interpret the concept, but it should have something to do with the setup in the below introduction.

This is your story told through the pictures you draw.

The Dark Triforce

You will choose 4 DIFFERENT RACES from the Legend of Zelda to use in this Quest.
Race #1 - the evil race
Race #2 - the good race
Race #3 - the O.C.'s race
Race #4 - the passive race
At the end of this Quest you will merge Race #1 and Race #2 into a brand new race.

STORY:

In the early days of Hyrule a tragedy occurred and the Triforce cracked! When this happened two new races appeared in the lands; the cruel (Race #1) who use the POWER of the Dark Triforce to extend their lives, and the gentle (Race #2) who dwell in a secluded valley. Both races are equal in number for their destinies are tethered together, when one is hurt or worse so too is their counterpart. A shard of the cracked Triforce was lost in the rise of the new races. 1,000 years have passed since that day and little remains in the ravaged lands of Hyrule.

Among (Race #2) is (Your Original Character) who is the lone survivor of their own race (Race #3) but has been guarded and raised by (Race #2). Upon the deathbed of the elder of (Race #2) they reveal that (O.C.) must fulfill the prophecy foretold and heal the Dark Triforce before the Great Alignment! The Great Alignment is when the three suns align to form an equilateral triangle in the sky. Before the elder passes they reveal to the O.C. to seek out Zelda who is the keeper of the shard of the Triforce, seer of WISDOM, and all-knowing of the prophecy.

It is with by the COURAGE of the O.C. to find the shard of the Triforce, place it back into the Dark Triforce in the castle before the Great Alignment, and reunite the races to bring peace to the land!

Prophecy:

“When Triangle shines the triple sun,
What was sundered and undone
Shall be whole, the two made one
By (O.C.’s race) hand or else by none.”
