The 2020 Quest Manifesto!

About Linktober Quest...

Linktober Quest is a drawing challenge that focuses on visual development in a linear journey that you create.
The Linktober Quest concept is from the mind of D.B. Root and then collaborated on with Joel to put together the QUEST CALENDAR. Click any of the topics below to jump to that section or scroll and read all.

Why do Linktober Quest vs. the Original Linktober?
Linktober Quest was designed as an interactive journey through your own world and as a chance to practice visual development. This focuses on storytelling, design, and continuity within a structured format. This, also gives an opportunity to enrich the Legend of Zelda world with characters and places that may not be canon to the series. By the end of the game you'll have a body of visual development material that could be polished up for things like portfolio entries, inspiration for other characters/stories, or a window into a world you built.

How Does it Work?
Like many drawing challenges there are 31 prompts that give a topic (prompt) for what to draw each day in that month. The difference is that in Linktober Quest, the drawing challenges are like a new page in your own adventure...

On the first day you create a new character in the style of Legend of Zelda as if you are designing a new game. After designing/choosing your character each new daily prompt will be another part of the world you'll uncover, ranging from characters, to props, and environments.
At the end you'll have built a small view into a world you've crafted.

New Game
Imagine that you are the Art Director for a new Legend of Zelda Game.

Each Week your original character travels to a new location with each prompt being affected by the new environment. All prompts are either a: Character, Prop, or Location. It's up to you how you interpret the concept, but it should have something to do with the setup in the below introduction.
This is your story told through the pictures you draw.

A Link to the Masters
Half a century passed after the fateful battle between Link and Ganon. The tyranny of Ganon met a swift end, however at the same time the legendary hero Link disappeared into the wilds...

For a time the land of Hyrule was peaceful with the world being in balance, until a darkness began to encroach on the land once more. It came on an icy wind one dark night, a monster from the old ruins rampaged. A sickly monster wielding a tainted blade. Of the many lands that fell to its fury was (Day 2 your village/town), where a single person survived (original character).

A mysterious Sage came forth in its wake, restoring the survivor to health. The sage tells the survivor of the monster called the “Master”, the one who likely destroyed their home.

The prophecy tells of the beast that only three items can defeat it. The Master items that Link left behind when he disappeared: the Master Mask, the Master Shield, and the Master Sword. The three forged in Din’s flame, with Nayru’s wisdom, and Farore’s craftsmanship. Only when the three of them are combined will they be able purify the beast!

This year's Quest is filled with characters, enemies, locations, items, and concepts for participants to create and design.
The final 2 days of the calendar are set as the final battle in which the O.C. teams with Link to defeat the Master!
